California: Facebook has changed its brand name to ‘Meta’.
Facebook has announced the company’s new name at its annual virtual conference, which has been confirmed by Facebook via tweets on its official Twitter account.
According to the Facebook announcement, all apps managed by the company, such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, will not be renamed. The reason for the name change is the recent negative news about Facebook and the accusations leveled by former employee Frances Hogan, who said that Facebook prioritizes its own profit over the protection of users.
Announcing the company’s name change at a virtual conference, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said: “We are renaming our company ‘Meta’ after plans to create ‘Metavers’.
Metavers is an online world where people can communicate with games, work and more using VR (Virtual Reality) headsets in a virtual environment.
